First Baptist Church Inverness
Thanks for taking a few minutes to check us out. God is at work in some incredible ways here at First Baptist Church of Inverness. So far the journey has been exciting and challenging. We are constantly reminded of the need to stay focused on Him and grounded in the Word and prayer.
Over the past few years we have experienced renewal and revival! God has brought us so far and He isn’t through with us yet. In every realm we have been blessed of God! He has blessed us with property and facilities. He has blessed us with staff that loves Him and loves this Body. He has blessed us with a warm and incredibly loving fellowship. He has raised up leaders and brought new life, new families, fresh wind and fresh fire to this old house.
So, we welcome you to our church family. Take your time browsing through the site. Spend a while watching some of the worship services on line and checking out some of the many ministry opportunities we offer.
If you haven’t visited in person, we invite you to come worship with us one Sunday morning soon. Sunday School is at 9:00 am and our worship service begins at 10:30 am Sunday morning. Come ready to encounter God through powerful music and the preaching of the Word.
FBC Inverness is primed and ready for the future! We believe that our best days are just beginning and that God will indeed do beyond what we can imagine. So, join us in this journey as we passionately follow Jesus Christ.
We started to meet in the "Old School House" located between Trout and Cherry Streets and Emery and Dampier Streets in North Inverness. The first building owned was located on the southeast corner of Grace and South Pine Streets. The frame sanctuary was purchased from the Christian Denomination on December 20, 1902. On August 18, 1907 we held an organizational meeting with sixteen charter members voted to be known as "The First Baptist Church of Inverness".
In 1960, a building drive was started to raise money and the goal was reached in September 1961. Plans were made for construction of an additional educational building and a new sanctuary. The remainder of this building program was financed through the sale of bonds.
The old A&P Grocery store was purchased in December 1986 and remodeled into a fellowship building.
"Catch the Vision! Possess the Land" started in August of 1999 when the church purchased 50 acres located off Pleasant Grove Road.
Citrus Memorial Health System purchased the downtown church facility in February of 2002 and allowed us to use the facilities through 2006. Beginning in April of 2003, the church, with the assistance of LifeWay, started the "Together We Build" Capital Campaign Fund Raising initiative. We started construction on December 16, 2004 and moved into our new facilities on December 17, 2006.
